In 1978 5% of the population admitted to being chronic procrastinator’s compared to 26% of the population today. Webster defines procrastination simply as; “To put off intentionally & habitually.” I am certain that putting off things to-do, is not a concern to my blog readers, but this is captivating.
Let’s think about this for a moment. Why is this list growing exponentially? What could be causing this? Maybe we just have too many things going on in our lives?
Christy Wright of christywright.com claims that we don’t have too many things going on, we just have too many wrong things going on. She recently writes this in a blog titled: “Has Overwhelmed Become Your New Normal”
What I am focusing on in her article, is 2 additional TIPS to better time management. I am very sure that you will be interested in these tips as well. My recently posted blog on Best Time Management Tips was very well received, with hundreds of comments and shares. Knowing that you liked that list, you will also like the following amendments.
Two New Items
My blog listed 10 points, included in that list were; #4 Make a List, and #5 Link all Tasks to a Goal. Those should really be 4a and 4b. Christy adds a 4c & 4d to this.
After you make this list do two simple things:
4c – Circle the ones you enjoy or are very good at
4d – Get rid of the ones you don’t enjoy or are not very good at
I know that you can’t get rid of them, they must be done. However, why does it have to be done by you? Can’t you find someone to delegate it to? Isn’t there someone you can pay to do it? How about barter a favor (maybe one of your likes is their dislike).
By employing these tactics, you can whittle your list down to things that you want to do, while still getting the others done.
So the final question is:
If you have a list of things to do, they all support a goal, and they all are things you enjoy & are good at, why would you procrastinate?
Get it done, enjoy it, and have more time to relax!
