If you are like most, you haven't even begun to start thinking about your New Years Resolutions. You are getting ready for Christmas and the Holidays, shopping, baking cookies, cooking for big families, wrapping presents ... okay, I get it ... you're busy. But thinking and dreaming do not take up that much time, and in fact, you could probably dream and bake at the same time.
(noun): a firm decision to do or not to do something
Are you trying to come up with a list of things that you do or do not want to do? If you are, you are going at this backwards. What you do or don't do, is the end result of dreaming and thinking. If you want to achieve and meet your resolutions, start your process NOW. Do so with a simple question; what do I want to be, do, or have? What is it that will make me healthier, happier, wealthier? This is the starting point in making your resolutions. If you are going to "make a decision to do, or not to do something", then it should point directly to something you want to be, do, or have.
Losing 25 pounds, is an easy decision. However, making a resolution, and achieving this, is a completely different animal. Do you want to be successful? Then make sure you have a reason. What will being 25 pounds lighter allow you to be, do, or have? If it is not important to you, then you won't be successful. It's that simple.
While you are driving to the mall to get little Johnny the newest toy (because you KNOW what he wants to have), start asking yourself what you want to be. Do you want to move up in the organization you are in? Maybe you want to be a better brother or sister, or better friend. Do you want to go on a vacation next year? Or do you want to have the latest electronic gadget? Maybe you want to select your retirement location? You can start the resolution process by talking to yourself.
The dreaming process is the best way to start the process of setting your goals and resolutions. It takes time yes, but it's passive time. You can do this in your car, kitchen, office, (most meetings), or any other place you are at. This is where you start, the resolutions come at the end of this process!
